Marineland 45 gallon cube and stand question

Hi! I have bought myself a marineland rimless 45 gallon cube in which I want to start a reef tank. My question is the package that came with the tank had a stand which was awesome! However I have been lurking over reefcentral forever:bum:. Now the stand that came with it has a open top meaning the sides of the rimless will be supporting the weight. I have only seen on here that for a rimless tank you need a complete flat surface with a neoprene mat underneath to distribute the weight. Well I contacted marineland and they said the sides will be able to hold the weight. I also tried to search online for pictures of people with the same kind of tank and stand combo to see if it actually works. My worry is if I listen to marineland and continue with the build I don't want a bunch of saltwater on the floor because the tank crack or busted. Please if anyone has dealth with this kind of tank please let me know if it worked or if you have and advice it will appreciated! thank you!

It seems wrong to have the bottom open but marineland will only warranty the tank if it is on their stand. I have the same one.

It's fine. All their rimless cube stands are open top and glass is different than acrylic. If you think about it, a rimless glass tank on an open top stand is basically the same thing as a rimmed tank. FWIW, I used to have the Marineland 93 rimless cube and made the stand myself. It was also open top and I had no issues in the 2.5 years I owned it.

Thats good to know! The people at the LFS said the same thing but sometimes I don't trust them. I guess ill hold water in it and do a leak test and see where I end up.
