I want to know the pro and con of owning the marine led? I saw one at petsmart for 50 bucks. I am planing on switching to led from t5 for my 56 gals. so tell me ur opinion about this marineland led lights. it a 60wM leds.

It won't keep corals. So if you are interested in those, then don't switch. Great for a FOWLR but not a reef tank.

hmm okay thanks!! I decided not get it after reading the thread about it. Im going with the ai nano for the 20 long gal fragging tank and one modular ai sol blue for the 56 gal tht should be enough?

Yeah I think even their new Reef Bright LEDs wont keep sps, should be good for softies though.

Wait. I have a marineland LED fixture and I have reef brites. Two different companies. The marineland fixture is weak while the reef brites are awesome. I use the reefbrites to supplement my halides and the marineland fixture is currently over my frag tank as a test. My SPS does nothing under the Marineland fixture while softies are fine.

i have one of the marineland reef capable lights on my tank. all of the softies seem to really like it. the one sps in the tank seems to be doing well with it as well. i did take it apart and make it so the blue and whites had there own power supply so they can be on there own timers

Postie,

Do you have a write up on separating the blues and whites, I just got a reef capable kit for my 75 and had read about the one plug being a pain for timing (dawn/dusk). I'd appreciate any info you can give me.

Nevermind... 3 days into having this setup over my aquarium and I've already had 5 of the white LEDs go out... Not a good 1st impression. Will be heading back to my LFS to (hopefully) exchange for a T5 setup. This is what I get for trying to be on the cutting edge...

I've seen the "reef capable" leds from Marineland and it was one of the most unimpressive led lights i've seen. The finish of the product is great. Its sleek, slim, and just overall sharp looking. What kills me is the color of the white leds. They have almost a 5000k look. Way too yellow for my taste. The blues look great though. Wish they would have added more blues to the fixture. Intensity wise, i compare them to about 2 t5's with a flat reflector. Great for softies, zoas, shrooms, etc...The shimmer is nice. I do really (REALLY) like the Vertex units and the Reef brite strips though. Awesome color and serious light. The price difference is worth it for a much nicer light. just my .02 :D
