Mark's 150 (72x18x27)

Looking good so far! Why did you decide to go with soft tubing, instead of hard pipe?

Thanks!

I want to send the tubing back up out of the way. Now that I'm past my first ever plumbing experience with PVC, and it went very smooth and smelly, I might think about re-doing some sections.

That's why I installed the unions and bought a bunch of them. :D

I like the scape as well. Following along Mark, just dealing with multiple issues with my tank so a bit busy :)

That makes sense! I do like the aquascaping as well. I like the numerous caves and arches.

I really like that rockscape

Thanks.

Multiple issues? :( Hope everything is working out.

So you all like it but I'm neutral. Hmm. My fingers are telling me never to do that again, so I guess I'll leave it be for a while and see if any news ideas emerge. :crazy1:

So I took apart that leaky connection, put the correct amount of teflon tape on the threads this time, then hand tightened only and the thread leak stopped but it still leaked at the crimp connection. Why don't I treat it like PVC? I glued it together like a slip joint and screwed the crimp bracket tight just for good measure. No more leaks. :uzi:

I was reading around about the correct way to install a union. Too late now, and not the end of the world, but I should have put the o-ring side down instead of on top. Oh well. I need to buy these for the future -> http://www.amazon.com/Neiko-407-Pie...F8&qid=1381986079&sr=8-1&keywords=o-ring+kits

The rest of the evening was spent watching RO/DI slowly trickle into the tank. At 9PM, when I stopped, the tank was about 1/4 full. I had my RO/DI output hose shoved into the python hose, and the hose wedged into the utility room door frame at the top hinge. This is about a foot above the top of the tank. It was comical watching the water rise in the hose as it filled up and pushed up and over the top of the tank. I panicked and lifted the hose all the way to the ceiling because the water continued to back up the pipe, but finally it reached a balance a mere 2 inches below that hinge.

Fortunately I should only have to do this one more day, Saturday, and never again. I plan on weekly 5% or bi-weekly 10% changes. I'm debating either using multiple small buckets for the change (I can only lift 3 gallons of water at a time without annoying the back) or buying a smaller Brute on wheels to go with my two 32 gallon Brutes. :fun4:

Purchased some shower pan liner today for the stand. I'm in a basement and not really worried about a flood, but the ability to catch some water if my rank amateur plumbing starts to leak is a good thing IMO. Time to do it is now, before I fill the sump with water.

At least you can see your scape while working with it. My tank was so cloudy from the sand I stirred up that by the time I was done with it I couldn't see a thing in the tank. I did it all by feel and got lucky that it looked pretty good by the time I was done fiddling with it.

I would recommend removing the vinyl tubing so it isn't making the bends on the drains, I think you'll have issues with noise as the water acts as a slide through the pipe.

Tagging along though.

Yea, I think dumping it in tank while I was draining water out helped give it at least one rinse. I've done 4 tanks and this was the most cloud free by far. I have a picture of another tank that was a solid cloud and I had to stop and wait a day before continuing. :D

Thanks! Yea, it makes some noise that's for sure and I suspect I will re-do the entire return, from the union to the sump, sooner than later.

Here's a pic just after installing the liner.

Last night I transferred all the corals and rock from my 40 gallon into this tank. Somehow I almost filled up a 150 from everything I had in the 40 and I still have a 46 gallon to transfer. :spin1:

The scape changed because I got my hands on a large shelf rock which the wife and I broke in half so it would fit in the tank. More functional than artistic, but it works. This pic was me taking a break after moving all corals and rocks plus 3 more generous scoops of sand and sand critters. I was up until 1am working on it and managed to compress the scape so I have more room. I noticed one more Nassarius snail and a couple of large starfish still need to be moved over from the 40, but it's basically done. I'll probably do a few more scoops of sand to boot.

I love this Carib Sea special grade sand. The 40 has been running for 2.5 years with 2 inches of it and the sand was in great shape. Gravel vacs, critters, and my thin striped hermits kept it well cleaned.

Looks great man, looking forward to the finished product!

Thanks.

With all the rocks and some sand from the 40 in this tank it cleared up quickly and though a bit hazy was looking great yesterday evening. The water still has a slight off smell to it so I'm continuing to dose Seachem Prime just in case there's an ammonia spike. I also dumped in 2 bottles of Bio Spira to make me feel better. The LFS was happy I spent my money on it. :hmm3:

This is how it looked when I got home from work.

And after adding my other MP40 and trying to move / scoot / mount the corals to give me room for those in my 46 gallon. Unfortunately some in the 46 aren't going to make the cut and either be given to the LFS or locals who want them.

The purple stylo is mad as hell and wants revenge, I think it hates the superglue / epoxy I use. Fortunately it looks good this morning and as far as I can tell only the pink poci is still upset about something.

Things are looking great! I'm loving the upgrade so far. And that thing is nowhere near full my friend. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun finding things to cover all that open rock :beachbum:

Glad to see the transition is going smoothly. I look forward to tagging along and seeing how this fills in over time

Hi Troub, thanks for the follow! More room eh? I don't know.

So I wanted an SWC skimmer but I'm having issues contacting SWC to see why my order apparently did not go through, so I bought one of these instead:

It's been skimming for 2 days now and seems to have broken in quickly. I placed it on 4 pieces of eggcrate bit I'm thinking I might need to raise it up another inch.

Took a vacation day yesterday and moved most of the contents of the 46 over. Good grief I have a lot of corals, and now even less extra space. :uhoh3:

I went ahead and moved my other yellow tang with a mirror at the ready. I was warned this could get ugly, but frankly these are two of the goofiest fish I've ever seen and have no idea how to actually fight. First the try and stare each other down, then the try to back into each other with the blades, but like an old man backing up a car it's not working very well and they end up just floating around each other.

Then, if that's not enough comedy, the Kole tang gets in between them and just sort of hangs out until the yellows go to their corner. Craziest thing I've ever seen. Because I wasn't watching them 24/7 I put a mirror on the side my first yellow likes to hang out. He loves himself and this was good enough to keep him busy most of the day.

So now comes the bubble tip anemone. :worried: I need to move him and his rock and 5,000,073 bubbles of bubble algae. I double check the temp and params, the 46 is at 8.5KH and the 150 is down to 9KH so I think I'm good enough. I used a small bucket, big enough for the rock, so he never hits the air. The last thing I want is him getting all mad and cruising the tank. The move went well and he's still in the spot I picked for him with the same PAR he had in the 46. If he wants to move he can move, I'll work around him.

Next up is the clowns. I've had my female for 2 years and the male for six months. I've had her in my 40, my 46, and now the 150. In the other two tanks she always ends up living in the top left corner. Hoping for the best I catch her and release her so she must swim through the anemone. She does, and then right up to the top left corner of the 150. :angryfire: Such is my lot in life I suppose. She was happy to see her man once I caught the little punk, and now they're both up there on the left.

Next was the Starry Blenny. The old man was hard as heck to catch, and I was using my small white soft next so i would not tear any of his various mouth barbs. He was not happy and sulked for a while, and then he and the Kole Tang got into it a bit, I suppose because they have the same eating habits? The mirror helped distract things for a while and I haven't seen any more aggression after the first hour.

That ended the move from the 46. I left behind my purple Dottyback terror, who will be returned to the LFS, plus a couple of rocks with Blastos, some Acans, and an encrusted Leptastrea that I hoping I can break off and transfer. I discarded most of the rocks from the 46 but moved some of the less infested ones to the sump to try and transfer as much bacteria as possible. All in all the move went well and the scaping also went well, except for my large monti rock, which is just sitting there for now, until I figure out what to do with it. Oh, and the Xenia came over with it. I need something to keep me busy, right?

These pictures were taken last night with the lights dimming down for the evening, so a little grainy. This morning all the corals were finally opened up. The Poci's were the last to return to normal. The water still smells off so I'm still dosing Prime to handle any ammonia spikes, but not seeing any evidence. KH was down to 9 last night and should be 7.5 to 8 today, so I'll start manually dosing two part to keep it around 8 until I get my dosing pumps setup.

Note location of Clowns. :headwalls:

This is from my comfy chair, looking up at the tank. Hey, at least I can view the clowns from here. :headwallblue:

Whew. Last of the transfer from my 46 gallon is done, nothing left in there except some coral frags and a fish that all goes to the LFS. I was able to get most of my orange and green Leptastrea to boot.

Latest pics.
