Yesterday i introduced a small maroon clown to my tank. The only other fish i have in the tank is a yellow tang right now. I noticed at first the two fish seemed to be ok with each other but last night i noticed that the tang was chasing the clown around whenever the clown came near the area where the tang sleeps. Are these two fish ok in thie tank together? Is this just the tangs way of marking his territory?

thank you

Scott, I'm sure other folks will chime in with difference experiences, as so many times it turns out that individual fish behave counter to general trends, but here's my experience:

I have a pair of maroons that I put in a tank after a yellow tang was already in, and there was some chasing of the clowns by the tang. The tang also chased all the other new additions that it's experienced, and so I assume it's just making its "top fish" status known. Everything has settled down, and the tang and clowns get along just fine now.

I would bet that you'll be fine in the long run, if the clown survives the initial hazing.

it is just like the elementary school kids, when the new kid comes in they would test them to see where the kid stands on...same goes with the aquarium.
