Maroon clown abdandoned sebea and went to green bubble tip

I just added about a week ago a gold flake maroon clown (a little bigger then 1 in)and an XL green bubble. I was hesitant to add the gold flake bc I already have a gold band maroon about 3 in in the tank in a Sebea which is XL. The moment I added the bubble tip the golf band went and hosted in it with the gold flake. What are the chances that i could get them to mate later on down the road? What should i do with the Sebea that really is not in use?

If you have a decent size tank you can keep both anemone. Maroons can be hard to match up but if you are not seeing aggression than you may have a good chance to have them mate up.

With the new maroon being so small it is most likely unsexed (juvenile). Just keep an eye on the aggression.

I have a 29 gal jbj cube. The sebea is has been planted in a spot for months already. Thank you for the information i am hoping i dont have to females or males thst would really kill my dream of seeing them breed

I'd probably remove the sebae anemone and keep the BTA. BTAs are a natural host for maroon clownfish, and the only clownfish-hosting anemone that can remain in a tank that size. Good luck with the pairing (and they can/will breed, if they form a pair--just keep an eye on them).

I have had the sebea since it was 3" now 12" and only have one tank up and running ( at the moment) so hopefully they can live happy together... right now my problem is the BTA is not really eating silver sides? just regirtitates the food

Sebaes are most naturally hosted for Maroons. Bubble tips are usually only an anemone of last resort for them. My experience has been that clowns will host in whatever anemone is available or ignore it altogether. It is odd that these guys went for the bubble tip over the sebae, unless the sebae was sick or something.

Try feeding the gbta some krill. My Rbta doesn't like silverside but it loves the krill I feed it.

I respectfully and strongly disagree with almost this entire statement. In the wild maroons are hosted almost exclusively by E. quadricolor (bta). The only time I have heard otherwise was in Scott Michael's book where he states that in Indonesia he found one individual being hosted by H. crispa (sebae) where he attributed the pairing to a low concentration of E. quadricolor. He also reported a large pair of maroons being hosted by H. magnifica in the same general vicinity. Again it was perceived as a result of a lack of preferential hosts available.

Upon further research I must agree with you. I was going by two charts that specifically mentioned them in close association with Sebae anemones and listed them as the favored anemone. However in further reading it is true that they favor the quadricolor.

The mature clown goes from the bubble to the sebea but mostly spends his time in the BTA...i am going to try the krill for the BTA and hop it works

I would guess you will have a pair-maroons do not suffer newcommers well! Just the fact they are tolerating each other from the start says a lot. I think the adding of the BTA along with newcommer might have helped.

I have the same maroon,and they live in a big carpet.they killed every anemone i put in other then a carpet.

So far they havenot detroyed the sebea or BTA. And they are both still very young the bigger maroon is only probably 9-10 month and the smaller one is about 2 months
