Maroon clown with percs?

G'day everyone...

I have a 8'x2'x2.5' mixed reef. I added a pair of maroons when my tank was roughly 3months old. After a couple months the larger of the two, the female? dissapeared. No body was every found. My tank is now about a year or so old, and thriving. I am just about done with stocking fish. But I would like to add either another maroon, or possibly a pair of percs? or maybe even both?

My thoughts would be another large maroon to get another female? and a pair of percs, and adding all 3 at the same time?

Can some people advise me on the pros and cons of this? and anything else that needs to be considered?

Cheers in Advance...
Alex

I would recommend doing more research. No offense, but based on your questions, you're not ready to add another maroon (and the below will kind of explain why). There is a lot of good information in this forum.

Even though it's a big tank, mixing clowns is not recommended. If the maroon's find the perc's, they will likely kill them on the spot. Not to mention if you're looking at large maroon's, they can be 10-25x the body mass of a perc depending on the size/age of the fish.

How big is the maroon that still remains? If it's anything over 1", then it's possible it's a female already, so buying a large female would lead to a war and loss of your current one. Pairing maroons is not necessarily an easy task, but based on the size of your current one you should be able to get some suggestions.

Hopefully I didn't come off as being too harsh, I just hate to see people (myself included) meet failure :)

i have a WSM with a juvie OC as a pair in the progress. i do believe a pair of clowns regardless of species would not tolerate excess baggage, extra clowns near them.

its just natures way.

two pairs in a tank would be bad. especially with maroons seeing how they have a large territory(2-3 meters if i remember right)

also if your maroon is 2-3" it should be a female, and if its a white stripe get a gold stripe for its mate and it should be half her size at least.

i could be wrong with my stocking but i have a pair of true sebae, maroon gold stripe, and false percs all living in a 240 about 2 feet from each other. am i just lucky or is it because i troduced the maroon last. i hope this is not a ticking timebomb but for now they get along fine...

you have very small fish in a large aquarium so i doubt it's based on luck.

now if you had packed all of them into a 29g then that's another story

i am still keeping my fingers crossed. the sebae pair and the maroon pair are big, the false perc pair is small...the male is misstriped :)
