Maroon clown wont stay out of sand

My maroon wont stay out of the sand, he constantly rubbs his belly in it like hes making his home or something...anything i can do to make him stop?...hes making my tank a mess!

Mine did this too. untill i got her a GBTA. now she hosts in it and leaves the sand alone. It may ba a natural hosting behavior. when in the nem she rubs her belly in it the same way she did in the sand.

My maroons do this too -- they have no host, and spend half the day rearranging sand. It's amazing how much of a mess a 3" fish can make! Interesting to see that getting them a nem stopped the behaviour, that's something to look into. Now, how to convince my hubby I need more light for the 30g...

I have four BTA's in the tank with my pair of maroons and they still dig in the sand. They have moved so much sand you can see the bottom in one place. They spend a lot of time in the anemones but still move the sand.

I have a pair of GSM clowns with an anenmone,& she constantly fans the sand into piles around the host.It is a PITA,im actually concidering getting rid of the trio.

yeah thats what i was going to do..but am having a hard time catching it!!!

I've placed a pair of small ceramic tiles, one on each side of my LTA, and it's pretty much stopped the sand moving from my GSMs. Seems they see the tile and figure they've hit bedrock

My pair cosntantly do this in their 75 gallon species tank (RBTA). They clear all the sand away from the base of the rocks where all the anemones are. You'll just have to get used to it if you plan on keeping them long term.

I also put a white tile just below the sand surface. The clowns become quite happy once they reach it and will stop digging
