maroon clownfish acclimation

I know I read a post about this a few days ago, not sure where it went to...
I just brought home a pair of juv. maroons. They were acting fine in the LFS and on the trip home. When put in the tank, the female has started her dominance thing all over again. Since they were fine before, will they be cool again or is this a wait and see thing? He's showing some signs of submissiveness, but I haven't seen all ofo them.

It's hard to say. Most of the time fish are kept in larger groups at the LFS and usually you only get to see them for 10 minutes or so before buying them. If this is true you really don't know much about the fish so they may well not be compatible. Once they are in your tank at home the behavior may change significantly.

The biggest thing to look at is the size difference. If they are not significantly different in size there will likely be trouble.

Well, I had them order them so it was just these two in the tank. They had been in there for a couple hours before I picked them up and true, I only watched them for 10 min. before they were bagged up and brought home. They have mellowed out since the first post.
The female is ~2.5" and the male is ~2 inches. If that's not significant enough of a size difference then I'm sure they'll let me bring the male back in and order an even smaller one.

Its going to be close.

It would have been better if the female was 3.5 inches and the male 2 inches. good luck and keep us updated.

Well, this morning they are hanging out like a happilly married couple, acting like they were at the LFS when I picked them up. No more fighting! They are just about glued to one another! Their VP rates have come down and the male looks a lot better than he did last night. Hopefully this will not change!

The first day is the worst and after that it gets better. When I put the bigger one in she kicked the crap out of the little one then over the next 3 days thing got much better. Good luck with your pair.

So her picking on him a little on day 2 -3 is to be expected? He's shown all the signs of submission to her according to Wilkerson's clown book. They;ll be happily sharing a spot, then she'll start picking on him again but nowhere near as bad as the first evening they were home.

Yeah, I've read that female maroons don't always adapt well to moves right away, and they have a tendancy to take it out on their mate. Glad to hear they're playing nice again.

I don't have any maroons but my female clakii will occasionally chase her little guy around just to re-inforce her position as boss.

They've been together for a couple weeks now.

Just wanted to give an update. The fish are on day 5 and are doing well! The males battle wounds are healing nicely and they look very happy. Thanks to everyone for the support and advice!
