Will a pair both host and defend an anemone? Or will only the female? Will maroons torment the all tank mates?

Anyone know?

Triggers

Triggers

I do not recommend putting Maroon Clowns with any type of Trigger, but the fact that I thought that it could work is what drew me to Maroon Clowns. I recently purchased some back issues of TFH, and I was suprised to see the author saying right in the article that Maroons are tanked with Triggers. Be prepared for disaster I say. But I think I'm in the clear. My Niger Triggers are too busy with each other as I have three in the Maroon Clown tank.

But will the maroons torment all the tankmates? Like will they got out of their way to chase a fish?

anyone know?

I was at my lfs today and they had triggers and maroons in the same tank... looked to be no issues

'But will the maroons torment all the tankmates? Like will they got out of their way to chase a fish? '

cant say for sure... but from what I see.. the fish would have to be very close to the anemone.. enough that the maroon would feel like the fish is threatining it... and i really dont see a maroons chasing a fish around the tank.. I cant get mine away from the anemone even an inch to eat

Maroons

Maroons

Maroons are said to be only aggressive towards other Maroons, and all other Clownfish species. Did the LFS have a Anemone in the Trigger/Clownfish tank? I would not dare keep an Anemone with Triggers. Clownfish might fight anything over the Anemone. My little Maroon gets feisty with Hermit Crabs, and if he could make noise it's like he barks at the Niger Triggers. I have no Anemone with my Maroons, but they still have territories.

nono the lfs dident have an anemone in the tank!! lol that would be a nightmare.

funny, my maroon gets really mad at hermits invading her spot too. she just picks em up and spits em out on the other side of the tank. best was when she picked up a rock. thing had to weigh twice as much as her

lol. Its amazing what they do to protect and clean their domain.

yes in a LFS near my house, in a exibition tank and coral tank the guy has a female maroon with a BTA, and he says that he can't put frags/corals near her Spot cuz she will pick them and throw them away!

I have kept a Maroon with other fish with no problems. My large Maroon was in a tank for several years with a Niger trigger, lionfish, snowflake eel, and yellow tang, and none of them ever fought.

Well yeah thats because that is an aggressive tank. I am talking about a more peaceful tanlk.

oh boy do i agree. It IS SOOO annoying. I was constantly looking for my frags... usually all the way in the back and unreachable.... lol Theres a good 6 inch perameter around her anemone. any closer and its getting moved by her.

Another thing i notice and Ive never had any other types of clowns so im just guessing.

But it seems maroons are REALLY intuitive. I see people saying there clowns never found the anemone in the tank and stuff like that...

My maroon notices EVERYTHING. a dog hair falls in the tank and she investigates it. I dident even have my anemone out of its acclimation bag yet and she was freaking out for it.

I really want maroon clownfish but I want a pair and pairing them up can be difficult. They say you should never buy two maroon clownfish as juveniles or they will fight to the death. You have to already have a large female and then introduce the male.

semireef.... mmm... i donno about that. only know what worked for me. I had a single maroon... i had it 2 months. cant say it was a female... might only have been a male i dident have it that long. but she is very dominate and agressive.

I found a juvi, a little less than 1 inch. qt'ed it for 4 weeks.

I put him in a clear container closeish to her nem for 24 hours.
she beat up the container and tried to bite him non stop.

he escaped the container on day two.. she beat him up, tore all his fins. he found refuge behind a pump. he started swimming from pump to pump. because he felt safe behind them.

24 hours after that... he was in the nem, kissingher cheek spines and doing the submissive dance.

24 hours after THAT.. she wouldent let him OUT of the nem. :) i have a thread about it.. u might have seen it tho
