Maroon coloration

The yellow stripes on my Maroon are very dark compared to others I've seen. I've had him for a couple of years now and I don't recall them ever being bright yellow. He has a anenome that I feed about once a week or so. Could it be that the anenome has a more potent sting in order to capture more food? I feed the fish a variety of dried flake, pellets, and frozen foods a couple of times a day.

Hi - I'll try to chime in here - but not sure I have any real answers for you...

I know that the yellow does develop with age - as GSM's stripes are white when they first come in... As to how dark they get - really not sure? Whatever it is - if you've had your fish for years - then he's obviously healthy and just probably has a darker color than some!

Can you put up a pic for us to see?

nothing to worry about, they are pretty variable in their coloration and bands. Females tend to be very dark when they mature, sometimes to almost chocolate brown.

I'll try and post a pic later...have trouble figuring out the white balance..etc. Maybe it's a female. The fish looks and acts normal other than the coloration. Thanks for the replies.

Both of my maroons were sold to me as the white striped variety but as they've gotten older yellow has started to appear in the white stripes. I'm guessing that my fish are around 2 years old, I've had them a year and they were around 2" when I got them. I'm not sure if the yellow will turn into the brilliant gold seen on some specimens or if it will stay a pale yellow or not.

Same clown pics 7 months apart.
