Maroon pair and lionfish.

I have a pair of Maroon clownfish currently in a QT. The female is about 4 inches and the male is about 2 inches. Can I put them in a 150g tank that currently has a small lionfish? He is about the same size as the male maroon and I know he will get quite large. When the lion is full grown can he potentially eat the male? If so I will put them in one of my other tanks. Thanks everyone.

Everything I've looked at says no - clowns and lions don't mix. Not to say they wont, but the compatibility charts put up red flags on them.

I would say your Maroon female would be a goner first unless she's timid. My 5.5" female will draw blood on my hand occassionally, so I think if the lion came too close you would have possibly a dead maroon from the poisonous spines and a beaten up lionfish. If you've ever seen a female chase a juvie/male WSM/GSM when she does not agree to the bonding you would be terrified for that lionfish at only 2".

Fierce agression paralleled possibly only by the Tomato complex.

I can tell you that I kept a maroon pair and a fu-manchu lion fish for a couple of years together. Doesnt mean that it is a good idea.

Well you may be able to keep them together for a short period of time. I have had many lion fish over the years. At some point your lion will will try to eat the clowns you will lost one of the fish. i would bet on the lion. however i have see a lion try to eat a fish bigger than it should have a choked and died. if short if the lion thinks it can get its mouth around the fish it will try it.

+1, especially if one of the clownfish is the same size as the lion that thing's a goner.
