Maroon/red algae HELP!!!!

I've had my tank up about two months and have been through various stages of algaes. I am using RO/DI water. I have a sump with bio balls first then going over and under a wall to the return pump with some live rock in that area. I also have about 125 pounds of live rockand a Fluval 404 running. I have a few fish, (2 percula clowns, 2 damsels, a goby, and 2 anemones) I have tested pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and salinity, and all are within limits. In just 2 1/2 days I have been hit with a red/maroon algae that seems to be taking over. Any help out there??

Sometimes increasing flow helps with red slime algae. Be shure to use quality test kits, some cheep ones are inacurate. High phosphate will also feed algae. Algae is part of a new tank it should pass.

When you say within limits that makes me nervous. Something is wrong or you would not have the algea. What are your Nitrate/Ammonia,What type of test kit are you using ? BTW you have 2 anemones in a tank 2 month sold ? What type of goby ?

I suggest getting a cleanup crew in there. I had the same issue on my new tank and a batch (10) cerith snails got the tank almost spotless ( of red algae) in 3 days.

I love those little guys now! :love1:

Also removing the bio balls is probably a good idea.

Doing that, plus what the others have said should make a big difference
