I picked up a used 180 from a friend. I will do a start to finish. This will be SPS only running on Zeovit. So it Begins the stand

Was thinking of doing the return in 1" pipe with a spry bar in the tank. What do yall think. why or why not with 1" return. Overflow is 1" pipe.

A spray bar would put a lot of backpressure on your return pump. So would using 1" pipe. That would require a stronger pump, which means more heat and more power consumption. What is it you are trying to achieve with these measures? Also, a spray bar would do nothing to contribute to water movement in the display tank.

Okay, so your spray bar is located just above the substrate. That means your return is totally submerged. What happens when the pump is turned off? - instant back siphon! Your whole display tank is sucked dry, your sump is overwhelmed and the floor is flooded. Not what you intended, I'd guess.

Was going to use a flapper valve to stop the water if the pump turns off. My lfs has one that has no metal parts in it. I would put two in line in case one failed.

On the back-check (flapper) valves, make sure you get the type with the transparent body so you can see if the flap is closing all the way. They are notorious for failing at the worst times, so make sure they are removable/replaceable in your set-up.

Ok thanks. The ones I will be putting on are clear. Just in case of failing thats why I am putting two on.
