Mated and Bonded Definitions

When someone states that they have a mated pair of clowns, doesn't that mean that they are, or have been, spawning? I would think a bonded pair might like each other a whole lot and hang out together:love1:, but they would have to be actively spawning (or did so in the past) to be considered "mated".

Depends on the person you ask, it usually means they hang out together otherwise the seller usually says it's spawning pair

This is how I have always defined them,

Mated pair -- actively spawning
Bonded pair -- pair that has been together for over a year, but has yet to spawn
Pair -- just 2 that have been together for less then a year.

Mated pair -- actively spawning

Pair -- just 2 that have been together for less then a year.

This is the best way to define them IMHO.
Be careful though, a lot of people will throw two juveniles in together and call them a mated pair.
