mated ocelaris

i have a pair of mated ocelaris clowns. they seem like they are about to mate. over the last few weeks, the sand behind the live rock where they hang out has shifted into like a ditch. i have a few questions. one, what color are the eggs usually. two, do they lay the eggs in the sand or live rock and three what triggers them to mate. thank you,

Mine haven't mated yet but I think I can answer your questions..the color of the eggs are orange some times orangish red. they lay eggs on the live rock next to the place or anemone they are using as a host. Usually feeding them really well gets them in the mood. If I am wrong some one who has experience with a mated pair of clowns should chime in.

The eggs are orange and they should lay on the rock usually. What triggers them is good stable conditions / low stress and lots of food. Depending on species temperature can play a role.

Mine are currently laying their eggs on the side glass -- mainly because that is where their Haddoni is. In the past they have also laid on the rocks and on a tile.

As for color, that is a factor of the type of clowns, and depends a great deal on what they are being fed. Right now I am mainly feeding Rod's food ( both types ) and the egg color has really deepened in color, almost maroon now.

I have to ask, sorry to hijack. Who is rod, what is rods food, does rod have a website? I hear about "rod's nems" and "rod's food" all the time. what is all the hype of rod?
