Mated???

You will see a bunch of eggs, usually on a surface near their anemone -- or a spot that they hang out at if no anemone.

The eggs will look something like this. (( these are about half way through development. ))

And if you are lucky, you will be able to catch them spawning, like this;

Alot of places advertise "mated pairs" when in reality they are bonded pairs or in many cases just two fish who are suitable to pair. One way to tell is the price True mated pairs can go for alot more money.

Like Todd posted though a picture with the fish and thier eggs engadged in nesting behavior is about the only real way. since clowns lay eggs every two weeks a picture should not be hard to get.

I have two clowns that I purchased seperately and I see them twitching and hanging out together. I was wondering if these will become mates or how that whole process works. (Not for me, for the clowns) =-)

Although cleaning activity is typical, I have never seen mine do it before laying eggs. In fact, mine are odd in that they don't even chose the same spot. Every two weeks I play "find the eggs"!

Todd,

Do you attempt to raise the eggs or do they get that developed before eaten by other fish or lost to tank filtration........just curious

Xoes there have to be an anemone?

No, there doesn't need to be an anemone. Many breeders only have a clay pot, and no anemone.

I just let the corals, other fish, and filtration take care of the eggs. One day I might try to raise some fry -- if my SI Perc pair starts to spawn too.
