Will a Matted Filefish attack clam mantles? I want to get one to take care of a majano outbreak that has gotten pretty bad over the last year. I know they are questionable as far as reef safeness for LPS and zoos. Thanks
I've had a matted filefish in my tank for the last 6 months now and it has not nipped at any of my clams or corals. I cant say it has eaten an appreciable amount of aiptasia or majanos either though. Maybe they are still multiplying faster than he can eat them. You know now that I think about, and look back at old pic, it I would say the tank may have 20% less majanos/anenomes than in used to. Maybe I just need to wait another few years!
Thanks for the updates. What kinds of corals are in your tank? Most of the threads that I found, the OP only had the FF for a couple of weeks. I think your response is the longest that I have found so far. Good luck and please keep us informed.
I have 2, never bothered my clam.. however did go after Acans.. So if you want to try, you risk the chance of them eating LPS. As far as SPS and softs you are safe.
I've kept a pair of them safely with 4 clams, ricordea, cabbage leather, finger leather, and trumpet coral. They have destroyed hundreds of aiptasia but left everything else alone.
