Matt's 110 progress report

Can't Stop Time
Well it has been very frustrating the last couple days. Murphy was hard at work to slow down any progress I might have made last weekend. I previously posted that the sump broke, which put a lot of water on my floor. The tank had to be drained about 10 gallons and the sump had to be drained and the refuge emptied. The sand was removed and will have to be cleaned again. The next task was to find a new sump. The 30L that I needed was very hard to find and took 9 visits to pet stores around tucson. When I got home and tried to remove the broken sump I noticed that it wouldn't come out. The 2x4's that my stand utilizes as its main support seemed to be bowing under the weight of the tank. This caused quite a bit of alarm and I knew that I would have to drain most the water from the tank before anything could be done. Once the tank was drained of 60 gallons the broken sump came out quite easily. The stand was reinforced with new 2x4's and then painted with a acrylic/latex paint to help prevent softening from water damage. I am now working on the new sump, T-5 lighting and Tunze stream to get the tank fully operational. Hopefully all will be finished this weekend and some pictures will be available. Also, the starphire glass on the tank really makes a difference. The glass thickness is 1/2 inch and the tank seems much brighter even though the lighting has not changed.

The Tunze 6100 is in place and attached to the magentic holder I got for it. The second I turned it on it started blowing sand from the bottom of my tank. I now have a crater in the front of my tank. The T-5's were wired to the ballast and then screwed in place. But when I plugged it in nothing happened. The sump was, of course, fixed and all looks the same as it did before. Scott gave me some of the Pridibio he uses and I saw ammonia fall from .50 to .25 in less than 24 hours, I guess that stuff works. The H&S skimmer is amazing, it is pulling stuff out of a tank that has been setup for over a week with absolutely nothing in it. The water is crystal clear and yet brown stuff continues to be produced from the monster. Hopefully I can get my PBT in the tank so I have something to look at, although I don't know how he will feel about not having light as of yet.

Got my lighting fixed but my ammonia is still high so I am going to wait on the PBT. Hopefully I can get some pics up as soon as possible.

I know, I will have to get you to come over and take some sweet photos of my empty tank (well I do have one hermit crab).

I will post some pics of the original build later. My camera is loaned out to a friend for a Maui snorkeling adventure, but my house guest has one.

Thanks Scott, that's my third bumpo!! I too would like some pictures, since I like looking rather than reading :D

the pics of this are in the Will Work for Diet Coke thread. I never found the time to move them over to this one.
