Maxi-Jet 1600 mod REALLY loud!!

I wasn't sure where to post this.

I just installed a sure flow Maxi-Jet 1600 upgrade kit on one my Maxi-Jet 1200's and WOW it really moves the water around. However, it is LOUD, really, really loud. Annoyingly loud. I can't take this level of loudness loud.

Has anyone else ever installed this kit? Does it quiet down after a break in period? If so, how long is that break-in period?

Loud is relative, but these are definitely noisier than the standard MaxiJet sound. I never found it objectionable though.

i have two , theyre junk i.m.o. i hate them ! i feel i was swadded as ive read quite a few good reviews on them . louder than a asm g-3 skimmer and three months old , but yeah ...if you keep your reef on an airstrip youll never hear them i took mine apart three or four times trying to get it "right" .. haha . they will also vibrate once in a while when they get a few months old you'd swear the stand was hitting the floor ......

I mounted it in a different way and it has quieted down some. Originally I expoxied a cleaner magnet to the top of the MJ1200 and mounted it in the tank that way. It was LOUD, I mean really loud vibrations. No matter what I did it wouldn't quiet down.

I mounted it with the included mounting gear and the suction cups that come with the MJ1200 and it is now quiet enough to not bother me. It does vibrate every now and again but I am hoping it will "break in" and that will stop.

I have not bought a MJ in a few years as they seem to last forever, it looks like this "mod" is now standard in the package.

When I bought mine it came with two propellers. I found the bigger one to be quieter. The suction cup mount does help. I tried the magnetic one, but was to noisy. That pump was not originally made to function with a prop. It is what it is.

Use smaller prop and maxi-jet pump. The 1200 and large prop are a bad combo.
