Maxi-Jet mod

Krazy

In Memoriam
as most of us had seen first hand the past saturday, Chris has the maxi-jet's with the mod done... I came across this link http://www.reefchili.com/MJmods.html and I was wondering if anyone here on the board could put a few of these together??? If you go to the link above and read, it sounds pretty easy for the right person, even the parts are cheap...

I'd like to put two of these in my tank... alot of people seemed to like them so maybe we could all get them done together, the parts are literally dirty cheap...

if anyone else is interested, please reply and maybe we can get a group purchase/put together going...

Very cool Tony !!!

is anyone from our club handy enough to make these ?? I dont think I can pull it off, nor do I have a dremel tool.... =0(

I had thought of it but CHris sent his out. I'm interested in getting a few together and using them in my new setup but sending oout the impellers for $20.00 might be the best idea.

Anyone else in on trying to do this as one shipment?

I would like to just send mine out.

I'd be interested in having 2 done. It maybe possible to get a discount if we organize it. Doesn't hurt to ask right?

I'd be interested in having 2 done as well...

I'll have to go buy two maxi-jets but that isnt a problem and its well worth it...

=0)

PS:

We should also do a group purchase on the magnetic holders for these as well !!! Would anyone else be interested in these for the modded maxi jets ???

I'm interested in the magnetic holds for the Seio's ;)
How do they come shipped? Are there really 2 magnets with 3 diff. adaptors? MJ, Seio and Tunze?

So Technically you could use 1- on an MJ and 1- on a seio or Tunze? Would make sense at 24.95 and $34.95 a pop for the Sure Grips. I almost ordered but still kinda holding back.

I pm'ed dhnguyen to see if he would be interested in doing this for us. If he is, we would need to get all the impellers together and send them out as a group.

I will let everyone know what his response is but in the meantime try to find out the best price on MJ900's

Best price on MJ900's I have seen is MarineDepot. They have them for $16.95 most other places right now for $19.95. There were several sales a month or two back, but we missed them.

You guys should try making some of your own. I purchased the parts a while ago and should be able to do some work on them this weekend. The good thing about DIY is that you will be able to make changes afterwards, and, of course, have the satisfaction of having done it yourself!

Also purchased the parts for the Swirl-stein which I am even more intersted in doing

Rainer I am going to try both routs I'm going to order the parts as well as a pre-cut shroud.

OK the part of this that is the hardest to do is the shroud. I am going to order a set of parts and an MJ 900. I'll let everyone know how it turns out and then we can get a group order together.

Sounds good !!!

Finally finished the MJ900 mod and made a 'Swirl Stein' this weekend and both work FANTASTIC!

The MJ mod is, literally, a matter of 15 minutes if one has done one before. I am still searching fo rthe perfect 'shaft' ( no puns, please ) as an O2 tube is too large. The prop can be drilled and the tube sanded, but, it's not what I really like to do for the rest ( gotta make 3 more).

The Swirl Stein was much more interesting to make.

Will make a picture project with the next one I produce ( had no time with the initial one since parents are up from Fla utilizing every spare minute I have ).

Total expenses: MJ mod and swirl stein maybe $15-20, not including the MJ itself. I used a different box as the others; it's an electrical box I got from HD for $4+

What be nm?

Steve,

thanks for the comments - made a couple more modifications to it - didn't know that the motor actually starts left one time, then right, etc, etc. So, I placed a stopper at the lowest point of the arc and this prevents the linkage from reversing. Making # 3 and #4 units this week.
