maxi jet modifications

I heard about a way to modify your maxijet powerhead to significantly boast the out put. I found a web site at http://reefdom.com/, but they are out of stock and no one responds to inquiries. Do you all know of any other places?

Thanks

just got an order from MJmods.com

pretty good I say... the MJ PH will put out A LOT of thrust after you mod it.

I got my parts from mjmods.com as well. Good quality parts for a cheap price. My modded maxi jet 1200 is way more powerful than my old Seio 820s. I actually had to rearrange rocks and corals due to its power.

If you're planning on modding 1200s in your 75, you may want to think about doing 600s or 900s. I've got two 1200s in my 112 and it's crazy how much water they move. Like TWallace, I had to rearrange stuff in my tank to keep them from getting damaged. I bought my mod kit from mjmods and I'd certainly buy from them again.

Hey, I'm interested in the kits from mjmods.com aswell. Which kit did you guys order? There are 2 kinds and I'm just wondering which one is best.

So are the kits based off of which maxi jet I have? I was going to put two in my 175 bowfront. Which kit should I get the 600, 900, or 1200?

I'm telling you the 1200 mod puts out like 4400 gph or something crazy like that. It's enough flow to cause thrust on the MJ that will push it across the tank if it's not clamped on well.

not complaining, just letting you know it's a lot of flow... so maybe one 1200 mod would be good for a bowfront - unless you are just building it. then go nuts, you have the ability to arrange the tank so the flow won't knock over corals or rocks

Is it a 75 or 175?

If it's a 75, I think you'd be very happy with two 600s. If for some strange reason, you don't think it's enough flow, I'm sure there are plenty of people that would buy them from you.

A maxijet 1200 will put out aprox 2000 gph- not 4000 (but still ...2000 is alot)!
I tested with a group of other people here at RC and, we all came up with around the same 2000gph flow.
MJMODS also makes a nice adjustable magnet holder for the mods!

is it 2000? I was just going off something I had read and not actually measured it...

thanks for keeping me honest, and yes 2000 is still mucho flow-o :D

I've modded 3 mj 1200's for my 90 gallon and im finally happy with the flow pattern

one in the back center facing the bottom of the tank to blow behind the rocks

and then one on each side of the tank facing the front glass

my three modded 1200's replaced 2 sieo 2600's and to sieo 620's
and uses 1/3 the electricity and lower temp

forgot I did take this the other day

remember im not that good with the camera but you can see the placement

I know Scott at Reefdom.com and I'll email this post to him. He's been having some issues with his website, and most likely never got your questions. Apparantly they sold every one they had within the first 8 hours of MACNA and are out of stock right now. I have been running one of their first models for about a year and they are the best MJ mods I've seen. The new models that just came out are even better and come with a full warranty.

So not to be ignorant, but is the model 600 -900 -or 1200 model based off of which maxi jet I have or the flow I wish to have?
