maxijet mod questions

i'm thinking of modding a maxijet, but all of a sudden it hit me... why? :D

i understand that tunze's are fantastic buggers, and that the maxijet mod is an attempt to force the maxijet to function as the tunze, but i'm curious how this helps and what exactly the correct function of the modded maxijet should be. help me see the big picture, i think there's more than enough information on HOW to make the mod available, i'm just curious to know how the final product is supposed to work.

thanks.

:D

Like a Tunze, the maxijet-mod will use a boat propeller to propel water instead of a regular flat bladed impeller.

That's all it is really. Using a 1.75" Dumas propeller on a MJ1200 I have increased the gph of the Maixjet from its stock 295gph to over 2000gph easily. The flow is also wide and dispursed and not concentrated like on the stock MJ and this is due to the large open output on the shroud.

I would have to say if you are after the ability to program your output you are better off with the Tunze. Maxijets they have AC motors they cannot be manipulated in the same way the DC driven Tunze can be. That is the one drawback of using the Maxijets.
People have tried different ways to overcome that issue. Like using them on wave timers and that seems to work for them and also folks are developing ways to have the power head rotate back and forth inside the tank.
Myself I haven't begun any Mods yet but I am sold on the idea and plan on building a couple for a hundred gallon tall I have when I get back stateside.

nguyen, how many pages of your thread are taken up by the actual procedure and how many are Q&A?

daddavis, as a controls engineer, i'm sure i'll figure out a way before too long. :D yeah, i've heard that same complaint. i would get the tunze's except for the fact that my budget has been preset by mrs sixline, and it doesn't include $900.

Really I have lost count on the thread long ago. You can go to http://mjmods.com for instruction on how to do these mods (I am not affiliated with them though)

Ah yes.. Marriage, the driving force behind DIY :)
