MaxiJext Modifications

I tried doing some searches on the internet but could not find anything I could trust, so I figured I would call upon the brain trust of people here. I know someone has done this and can explain in hopefully simple terms. I would like to increase the flow on my MaxiJet powerheads until I can afford some Koralia 3s or something similar. Is there a no-cost or low-cost mod I can perform on the MJs to increase their flow?

I was like you and couldn't afford the Vortechs right now and I tried a Koralia in my last tank and didn't like it. So, I bought one of these mod kits (see CaliDreaminjc's link above) for my MJ 900. The price is so reasonable and the increase in flow is dramatic. Easy to install; truly a case of "if I can do it, anyone can", because I'm the least handy person around. I run the modded 900 and a 1200 in my sixty gallon and they provide ample flow.

ummmmm......no? You are quite clever and very handy...love the covers you built for the top of the tank..

thanks for the chaeto and was honored to be able to get to know Paco.

arc in buffalo carries the maxi jet mods i have two of them on maxi jet 1200's and i love the flow they put out. i would definately recommend them, they are pretty inexpensive as well.

if u drill holes around the bottom part where intake is on pump,it allows it to suck in more water make like 6 holes with drill on bottom plate of intake

This is probably a dumb question. I should only need one 1600 upgrade for my 55 gallon tank, right?

My 60 gallon has the same footprint as your 55, just a few inches taller. I use the mod kit on a MJ 900 and have a unmodded 1200 on the other end of the tank. They are pointed approximately at each other. If you mod a 1200, I would still suggest you have another powerhead on the other side to mix things up a little.

Ok. That is what I thought. Thanks for the info everyone. Glad there are always people to bounce questions off of!
