Maxima avoiding light?

I put a small maxima in my 7 gallon nano several weeks ago. The tank is lit with a 150W hqi. Anyway, he scooted all over the place until a few days ago, when he dragged himself to the edge of the shadow line under the cave of rock in the center of the tank.

Is this normal? I've let him go whereever he wants until now, but I'm concerned he isn't going to get enough light.

Do you know what kind of lighting was it under at the store / where it came from?

I got it from a tank that was under a mix of halides and actinics. Pretty bright tank, but they were on the bottom.
