I don't know what's going on with my maxima. I have a diamond goby and he keeps trying to build a home underneath him and when goby isn't trying to build a cave underneath the clam he is trying to bury him alive. Yesterday I got home he was completely buried in the sand and my partner pulled him out from underneath the sand and gravel but today he was very recieted and almost buried again from the goby. I pulled him out and shook all the sand out and placed him up on a rock where the goby can't get to him but his foot looks gathered looking. Is he ok, is there anything I can do, will he recover now since he's out of the goby's reach????

Damn! I've had him for over a year with no problems and in just a few days this goby has done this to him. And words of advice? I usually kept him on the sand bed instead up on the rocks. If he is gone at what point will I know that he is dead or at the point of no return and take him out of the tank?

Pretty much if the mouth is fully open and gapeing, and there is no response when touching or putting your hand over him it's over. You can give it the night to be sure, but it's usually very obvious very quickly with clams. They can basically go from looking good one day to being mush the next.

I went through a lot of problems at first with clams. I couldnt ever figure out what was happening. Some would last a month, others just a few days. One morning I was leaving for work and noticed another clam dead, but this time the culprit was still having his snack. I got lucky and grabbed a net and got ahold of a foot long eunicid worm. Kind of off Subject but clams can go south really quickly. BTW maxima clams like to attach there foot to rocks, maybe the digging under the clam damaged his foot somehow?
