Hello guys,

I got a small maxima clam (1.5") about 2 months ago. It was doing fine but in the last week or so the center part of the skirt is always hidden while the opposite ends are out.

Is this normal?

PH: 8.3~
Alk: 9.3~
CA:440~
MG: 1380~

a picture would really help.....

i'll wait to see the pic but is he really close to an anemone or soft coral that may be stinging him??

having sort of same issue but none of the mantle is showing today and the clam is fully closed, the whole mantle was showing yesterday and it was open just a littlebit

you should start your own thread and

list all your fish / inverts, parameters, lighting, type of clams and pic if you can. :)

I had a similar issue with my 2" gold maxima. One the side where it was partially 'pinched', there was some red strand turf algae poking above the shell (maybe irritating the mantle?). I removed and cut it back some and now my clam is expanding fully without any pinching. It's only been day two, but it's looking good...knock on wood.
