Maxima Clam on Substrate

I just purchased a maxima clam from reefermadness.us and i want to put it on the substrate, which is sand, like most of you guys.

i am wondering if it is better to just put it on the sand by itself or have the clam attach to a flat piece of rock or shell and then put it on the sand. i read that clams are happier if they are attached to something.. i dunno i wanna check with u guys.

I prefer them to attach to something first suchas a small flat piece of rock and then position that wherever. I find that when placed directly on the sand (aragamax) they tend to blow it around when they open and close and end up digging a hole around themselves.
