maxima in a 12g

Is it possible to keep a 1 inch maxima clam in a 12 gallon tank under 60pc watts, I have heard that stability might be a porblem, so I have an auto top-off system. Thanks.

The tank size for a crocea isn't an issue (if it there is very little rock and the clam is the main thing in there), but the lighting, IMO, is a little low. If you went with an adult Cocea and put it midway up in the tank it would probably be fine (although not super happy). Also, a 1" clam is absolutely not a good choice for a beginner. It is very common for them to die pretty quickly in beginners tanks. I would recommend not getting any clams until you are in the hobby for a while and upgrade your equipment.

thanks very much, I'll hold off. Only one question, is feeding the issue, because i could take it out once a week and bowl feed it, because I grow my own phyto.

The two issues I saw were your lighting and I assumed it is a new tank. If it is an established tank, then that is one problem solved. The lighting is still inadequate, IMO for a Crocea. A Squamosa or Derasa would do better in that lighting, but they grow way too big for the tank you have, and they grow fairly quickly.

I'd say you either need t-5 or a small MH. I have a 16g nano, with a 175w MH and 2 12" VHO, and I keep 2 clams. a 5 inch gold T.max, and a 4 inch crocea. I think your lighting would be fine for a derasa clam. The biggest thing your going to have to deal with is the Calcium and ALK swings. If I was you, I'd get a mature Derasa clam for your first one. Like SMCNALLY said, baby clams are alot harder to keep, they are more likely to up and die from a small swing in params, or from being underfed. Baby clams arn't as photosynthetic as their bigger brothers.

I'm not quite sure what your trying to say. He has 60W PC in his tank, how is that more than 150W DE? 150W DE is plenty for a clam in a 30 gallon. I'm also not sure about what you mean by not using the stock bulb. The "stock" bulb doesn't really mean anything. There are other brands that could be better then the stock bulb.
