Maxima Insists He Is A Sand Critter!!

I have had a small maxima for about six weeks. I have tried different spots on the rock and he will jump off every day or two. I finally decided to try the sandbed which seemed to please him. He has really opened up and looks good. So......I placed a small flat piece of rock level with the sand under him since he seemed to be sinking slightly into the sand. Within an hour he was off the rock and back into the sand. Is there a reason why he can't do well without being attached to a rock? Thanks.

Steve,
I have all my clams on the sand and they do just fine. I take them out every few months and scrub their shells with a toothbrush. That would be hard to do if they were attached to the rockwork. Don't worry they only sink down so far :)

Regards,
Kevin

My Gold Maxima in my 58g fell off the rock a couple times before I decided to just keep him in the sand. He is buried about 1/2" deep...I take him out to kill the aiptasia that like to grow on his shell and he does OK with it.
