maxima loosing colour

Place a flat rock, epoxy disc, etc. under the clam. That way it can attach to something using it's byssal threads. That is when they seem to get comfortable IME. You may have to place it higher in the tank to get it to attach, but once you find a sweet spot it likes they usually attach quickly.

Just curious, have you tried feeding it?

The problem is your cleaner goby. Is it the tiny neon blue fish?

I had two beautiful clams in my tank and then I put a cleaner goby in. The goby liked to sit on the mantle and my clams started looking like yours but near as bad. Get the goby out or get the clam out.

I had to remove my clams and they bounced back pronto in my friends tank.

IMHO.
Bleaching (That is what I see) can also be caused by overexposing the animal to light. When this happens, they will turn away from the light..
I too, say move it..but away from heavy light.. Damage- I see- will take quite awhile to heal.
20k's are fine
(20 plus clams, keeping them for 10 -15 years )

Charlie Davidson, do you recommend feeding clams this small live phyto? If so how much/often?

its not necessary. if you have a healthy tank, with a good fish population and feed these fish well you will have plenty of nutrients for your clam

Sorry for slow reply.. I have seen a few people here, that jump all over someone with differing opinion's. And thread is on bleaching on another persons clam..
I am not a big fan of feeding.. Ditto mbbuna..
Healty tank is the key..
Phyto can be used , sparingly.. feed the tank.. no direct feed.
( Right now, I am using phyo everyday,, but thats long story and this is not my thread0

Check your temperature. I once had a maxima look like that and i unfortunatley figured out the problem was temperature after it died.

k guys I really need your help here I have tried everything I moved it up to slowly to the highest point in the tank tested and retested my water and temp,i have been feeding phyto everyday pretty much turning my hole tank green with it and brushed the shell off to get rid possible pyramid snails its looking really bad

its extending its mantle nicely, leave it in the spot it is right now. if your not seeing any pyrams then i wouldn't move it at all. i also wouldnt add so much phyto so that your tank turns green. its not going to repopulate its zoox over night, its going to take time

how about a full tank shot and a top down shot of the clam
