Maxima pinched mantle or new growth?

I have had this Maxima for about 4 months now. About a week ago I was going to post and ask if something was pinched mantle. The front part of the clam was not extending but the back was. Then I noticed when it was closed up that it almost looked like a new ridge of shell was starting to grow. Now the back is doing the same but can't see any new ridge. So from these pictures is this pinched mantle or is this what happens when a clam starts in on a new ridge or row of shell?

check to see if any snails or something stress out. If it get worse i would do freshwater dip right away and change more than half of your water. It work for me on my maxima clam. I had dip 6 times already on my clam when i had bad case of phosphate in my system. The mantle keep pinching in on mine and after a dip it would get better. I fought for 3 weeks to get phosphate down to level for the clam to be happy again. The clam has to be able to close all the way before you can do freshwater dip. If the clam too weak and can't close then you can't do it. The earlier you do fresh water dip the better you give your clam a fighting chance.

Phospates read .05 today and it survived all the way through my nutrient battle in Nov-Dec. I tried the fresh water dip today and it still hasn't opened and a nesarious snail is attacking it now so I don't think it made it. Kinda sucks ohh well.

So how long with the protozoan that causes this stay in the system without a clam?

I wouldn't bet on pinched mantle being the cause of death, looks like it was just near death to me in the 1st pic but not PM.
