maxima under 400s

how far down do they need to be is up high ok like 9 inches be fine or to much light lights are 2x 400 hqi 14k bulbs running for ten hours a day

i keep mine on the bottom, only because of their size. i have a crocea that i keep about 10" down under 400w 10k's. just make sure that you acclimatize them to the light first and you should be ok.

i have a 3" one at the bottom about 20" deep under a 400w xm 20k which is about 14" over the water. Doing great and growing very fast.

I agree, I think you'll be fine. I have a couple maximas on the sand about 20" below a 250w 10K @ 10hrs per day. I've only had them a month, which I know is a short period of time, but they are showing new shell growth already.
