OK here it goes, In all literature it stands that maxy clams can grow up to impressive size, just bit smaller than squamosa (1' or something) , but frankly I never saw any much bigger than mine

OK 1-2" bigger yes, but not really monster clam that could be compared with big squamosa clams I see so often, like this one in friend's aquarium

most maximas I see in retail shops are aquacultured imports which are sent to market as soon they approach 2-4" size ( goods for different customers dependent on how much money is one willing to spend.. )
Further more most of em perish in aquariums within year-two but few grow to some 10" and are then sold for big $$$$$$..

just because I haven't seen any huge one it certainly doesn't mean there aren't big ones in other tanks but somehow I disbelieve that.. plz. show me some pics and prove me wrong.

I haven't seen any larger then 6-8 inches honestly. Are they are out there? Probably. IMO, they are the slowest growers that I've seen.

clams are VERY long lived naturally, and I would guess that they keep growing throughout life (although this I am just speculating on). Maximum natural size and maximum captive size are going to be quite different I would guess. COReefer's measurments are the biggest Ive heard of.

Record is supposedly 40cm, but very, very few make it to 25cm (10") shell length.

Kind of like people - a lot of 6 footers, but not many 7+ footers out there...

Its about 8" long.
Do you have problem with them staying upright on the BB tank?

No way they never fall over.
The maxima i have is from a fellow reef club members and it was in bad shape but its looking better all the time ill have to post a pic of it in a few months if this thread is still going. I got it for $20 bucks so i dont mind the slow recovery.

BTW when i had a 5" sand bed in the old tank i had bristle worms on the clams all the time since the change i never see any bristle worms on the clams. I guess they stay in the rocks now.

-TS-Vash , I have a BB and I always put them up on the rocks because I was thinking they will jump up and fell over good to know thank you I will get me some more and put them on the BB.
