They came out with this offer I have 3 of them.

Maxspect has come out with a great offer for Maxspect G2 owners.

Starting March 26th CoralVue will be offering existing Maxspect G2 customers (USA customers only) the option to exchange their old tired fixture in for a brand new shiny 120w 16k Razor. This is almost unheard of, to offer an exchange program for loyal customers in our industry.

Here is how the program works:

Each G2-110w or G2-160w entitles to exchange for 1 Razor 120w 16000K
Each G2-170w or G2-230w entitles to exchange for 2 Razor 120w 16000K

The replacement 120w Razor will be new and have the same 1 year warranty as a new fixture. We expect the exchange program to last 3-6 months since there are several hundred of the G2 fixtures out there and it will take time for those customers to learn of this program. At the end of the exchange program, support for the G2 fixtures will cease so you can encourage owners of them to take advantage of this offer while it lasts. Some components will be available for the G2 to buy but will be left to the owner to do the replacement work and eventually the components will not be available.

Needed from customer:

Return of Maxspect G2 fixture, power supply and all parts.

Customer Name:
Phone #:
*Address:
Email:

*Customer must reside within the United States

Cost:

Direct to the customer $294.99 + shipping (regular retail price is $419.99)

Why exchange with the 120w Razor?:

Utilizing Cree LED chips, the Razor 120w actually out-performs G2-160w, and a single Razor 120w also has a wider coverage compared to a G2-160w.

Please call or email us for details of this great offer.

how do you call this a great offer. it is nothing more that a 25% discount for buying a defective product to begin with. these units should have been replaced a a much more reasonable cost to the original purchaser.

So they're giving ~$100 trade-in credit? How much were they new?
With that price they're still making a big profit, and correcting their mistake at no cost to them

i have waited several months for this "buy back" program with lights that are barely functional. i could spit nails at this point.

Same here paid 1200 and there were crap from the begining . Just thought there be a better deal that this . They could have been shipping free

I would have paid up to 100 bucks for the use I got out of them but 300 is a crock.
I will never buy or recommend their %#*^ to a soul not ever the ones I can't stand. My business will go elsewhere

Honestly, youre lucky they offered it at all. We all know in this hobby that some products dont work as the company intended, take a look at marineland led lights, and others on the market as well they are terrible barely capable of keeping softies alive. Alot of people who jumped into the LED boom were disappointed because the technology wasnt evolved enough yet and I guess it sucks that you were one of them. I realize you spent alot of money on these fixtures, but honestly before I spend that kind of money on anything I'd wait for some real reviews on the product first.

It is not about the technology of these units . It's about the failure rate and quality.

Your right they could have none nothing , But if I ship 3 and have to pay shipping for the new I think I make nothing on the deal going to call to day and see.

What I'm saying is plenty of companies sell inferior products and dont offer any type of replacement, it doesnt make it ok behaviour but it def happens alot. I realize its frustrating buying something and having it suck but its a risk we take in this hobby.
If you have to ship 3, and pay for 3 you do gain. You get an impressive light, with results that can be seen over and over again from members of this site. I almost went with the razor myself but due to cost being the major issue I settled for a gently used 6 bulb ati t5 fixture. Again, I realize how frustrating it is to get a product that sucks and doesnt deliver but I think its a nice gesture of maxspect to offer this. Shipping for the fixtures shouldnt be more than 20 each unless they are super heavy so its not a total washout.

i paid almost 600 a piece and they began to fail with in just under a year.
So you'll have ~$1000 in each replacement unit? (!)

Seems like they want people to replace their old units, to end their warrantee problem...at the customers expense!

I would guess that the people that see this as a 'great offer' or 'nice gesture', do not own a G2 themselves.

Fortunately, I do not own a G2, nor would I consider doing business with them, based on this 'great offer'

Wow, is that a really condescending statement, or is it just me? Do they think they're talking to little kids? oooohhh, shiny!

...reminds me of Firefly...

my hard earned cash will be spent elsewhere. may pay more for an ecotech product but at least they take care of defective equipment.

Ecotech definitely seems like a very reputable company.

BTW, gandolf8, I meant no disrespect to you - just commenting on the CoralVue PR.

Well, I wish that I could get a replacement for my junk skimmer that I started with, or the junk powerheads that were made to seem great at the time. They could have easily just have taken your money given you a crap unit and been done with it, but yes they are a business and they are in business to make money. Its a slick tactic, but something that many people will prob take "advantage" of.

We currently have some really nice products in the aquarium industry. Seems like modern technology is following into the trade. I wouldn't say cutting edge in comparison to phone, computer, gadget stuff. With that, the gadget attitude of today's stuff is best, yesterday's stuff is crap has come along. I find it bizarre and ironic that people are "investing" into lights that don't need bulb replacement only to replace the entire light because its outdated. And by outdated I'm talking under lifespan of a mh lamp. Guess some of my 15+ year old ballasts are living dinosaurs. I am not just saying that about the razor lights, most top line led lights seem that way. I currently use led lights by few manufacturers and the sad part is with new models released the issues I have the most with, are still not dealt with.

I have an iPhone 5 because my 9 month old iPhone 4S is absolute crap. But I just can't wait to trash this junk phone as soon as 6 releases.

100% with you here sir. I'm one of those unfortunate owner that majority blue melted just a few weeks outside of the warranty window.

I took the unit a part and removed all of their LEDs out and replaced with Cree. Such an expensive heatsink/power supply lol.
