I was initially fascinated by reef keeping after seeing my older brother's reef tank in the late eighties. I had been pretty successfully keeping freshwater fish but it was all the little critters in his tank that really got my attention. I set up my very own reef in 1991, saw SPS corals, and the obsession began...
I stumbled across Reef Central in about 2000, when I was between tanks. I became a member in 2001- as I recall to join a debate about DE metal halides
Being able to call upon the experience of so many long time reef-keepers is really an amazing thing! For me, Reef central is a knowledge repository that gets more effective as each year goes by. I love talking to people from around the globe and seeing inspiring tanks that make my jaw drop.
RC has always attracted people who have great information and experiences and I learn something new each time I visit. I am blessed to be able to have a reef tank, soon to be two tanks, and so now I hope that I can help others with the information that I have learned. I feel that as keepers of living things, it is our responsibility to give them the best chance to not only survive, but thrive.

In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to the premium level for one year.
