Thanks to Carole Mclaren aka Caryliss on RC for writting this up last year so that I could cut and paste it ;)

wow 75 people looked and not 1 reply I can't believe it I thought that with all the free Food that you get that everyone would be begging for a position on the board I guess people must have thought about it and decided that the 100 + hours of work a year was not worth it for a few free meals god knows that It cost me $10 in gas to go to our board meetings

you said a mouthful there brother tell you what next time ill buy dinner but only for the board member that work the a$$es off so we can enjoy the likes of premium guests like we had tonight all i have to say is im embarrassed! ....theres my two sense ..OUT!!

My post didn't post, so I'll try it again.... I was wondering if there were any "at large" board positions?? While there were a few offices I was interested in, I wasn't sure if I had enough experience for them.

I'd like to apologize for the out break at tonights meeting. With all the work thats been put into this past couple of months for the club it just set me off when something such as a dinner paid for by the club got so heated. I know its no excuse to tell someone to shut up but I got caught up in the moment and I'm sorry for having said it. Ernie is a good guy and apparently had high feelings on the subject, as I did too... Just on different sides of the spectrum.

I really urge people to run for a office position next month. It's not like theres a ton of work to do, but at times it does get taxing. Not to mention people jumping down your back if things don't go just the way they wanted them too. But hey, you go into it knowing theres good and bad
Erik

IMA Erik you have nothing to apoligize for...as my personal fellings go I whole Heartingly think there is nothing wrong with what took place and and think as a whole the club should foot the bill ......

Having been a member for a short time 4-5 mo. , it is my impression that the officers do a fine job for the club. I've been to a couple very informative mtgs., had a nice xmas dinner, and got many frags and ideas that I otherwise probably could not have gotten. I'm a happy camper, have lunch on my dime!

I think you need to add one more position in your elections next month: Security / SWAT. ;)

I'd be interested in the secretary position. Thank you for posting the job descriptions. I think that is very helpful. I'm open to helping with anything I can, but don't know if I have enough experience for any of the other positions. Will the decision on these positions be made at the May meeting, or just nominees?

here is my 2 cents and please let me tell you first that i will remain objective at all costs. i think that the benefits, information, and help i have received with my reef since i have been a member (2mo) is worth the "perks" the officers may or may not get. it is a non issue for me. in fact, i am part of several boards already and if i go more than 10 or 15 minutes for business pertaining to that board, my meal, gas, and if i decide to buy materials for the organization, those are picked up as well. it is a common practice.

having said all that, as a formality only, i believe the issue should be voted on at the next meeting and then documented in some type of club bylaws exactly what officers get and do not get to expense to the club. that takes all the emotions out of it. then if someone wants to join the club, they read through the bylaws and if they do not agree with them, don't join. period.

personally, by the sounds of how long these officers have been doing this, i would be up for paying for more of the expenses that they incur as long as its visible to where its going. thats just good business.

In both my Unions in Fire and Police we have a position called Sergeant at Arms. This position would pretty much be to keep the order and peace in the club. I would Gladly run and hold this position as to not have another episode like last night again. It's not that people cannot speak their minds or even argue but last night with a guest speaker WASN'T the time in my opinion. It was VERY embarrasing to the club.

My other thought. I am VERY appreciative to the Club Officers and ALL the time they put into the events, meetings, and Just keeping C-Sea alive. I have no idea how many hours each of you DONATE to the club but in my opinion a meal every now and again on th club is fine with me. It should be our way of thanking the officers for time well spent. If it wasn't for this club I would probably be out of the hobby by now as well as many others. The knowledge and experience I have gained is priceless. I dont think it was money mis- managed. I think money well spent!!!!!

**** I am willing to bring my taser and extra handcuffs to the next meeting lol I also think the Sergeant at Arms should be included in the free meals though as well LOL!!!!!! See you all in MAY Ben

if he has a Taser he is more then welcome to a good hot meal and if the waitress does't agree taser her lol

I heard about sparks.
I miss all the fun.

While I do not always agree with what Erik has to say/type all of the time.

The mere mention of the "who pays for the meals" bit was way outside what was called for. The post was a cheap shot. And Erik's tight jaw over it is reasonable.

And the premise of the club officers doing what most would not or cannot do and getting a meal at Applebees is the least the club could do for them. The very least. Not saying the club should foot new tenacors for the officers, but a meal is not that big a deal. Again it was a cheap shot and the party should not have even gone down that road.

IF I were in a club officer's place, I probably would have tossed an adjective or two and mentioned being a bit burnt about that myself.

Of course waiting until a guest speaker was not around and not posting the resultant sour grapes for other tentative speakers to see/hear about would have been a better world.

Agree with other positive minded posters...vote on it and if it passes put it in the bylaws so that the ungrateful do not feel they have a leg to criticize the measely meal voucher for the most deserved club officers.
---->Oh and if this is a barometer of what the club officers have to deal with after doing the dirty work to get things done in the trenches...no wonder it's tough to get folks to sign up to volunteer for the job.

Hey I can get my hands on one of those old telephone generators if you need a threat to keep the peace....(PLACE JOKE FLAG HERE)

My fiance and I have been members since October 07 and I, personally, have learned a ton about the hobby, none of which would have been possible without all of the hard work and dedication from the board members.

Throughout my collegiate career I have been on many executive boards and the president of many clubs and have never seen anything like this. The exec. members dedicate their time and energy to making this club fun, informative, and successful (and I think it is all three) and the LEAST they deserve is a meal for it!

Additionally, the meeting where there was a paid guest speaker from Texas was NOT the time to bring this up! I was embarrassed for the club and the exec. I think a vote at the next meeting will overwhelmingly show that this is a non-issue.

Great job guys, thank you for all of your hard work.

Back to the issue at hand....next month's elections.....About those "member at large" possible positions....and maybe we could post contact (email) info of current officers, that way, if we had any specific questions about an office we could ask the source.....

Don't make me go "Chuck Norris" on this board.....I have a fierce roundhouse kick.....
