Both of those days look great. Lets everyone post to see which day works best for the majority. I know for myself Sunday aftenoon is my "most likely to make the meeting" day..We will be gone that weekend but should be home in time on Sunday to make a meeting. Thanks AGU for looking those tides up, work has just been crazy and I refuse to look at a computer when I get home at 9:00 p.m...

If you want to do it up this way that would be good, Or the park down past Mote Marine on City Island in Sarasota, There is quite abit of landing area there to sort out what is in the net and picnic tables to hang at or do alittle picnic after seining.

AGU, do people need to have a fishing license?? I am not sure since we are doing this from land. I know you guys looked up the regulations last time you went.

That's a debated issue so I submitted this question to the Fl Fishing Commission.
I'm a member of a group of marine aquarists. We want to go seining in the flats of the intracoastal as a recreational and educational outing. Will participants need a saltwater fishing license to participate in this activity ? Other than the normal saltwater regulations are there any special rules for this type of activity regarding keeping any species we may capture in the net. The net is 27'X4' with about 1/4" mesh, would this be a legal net? Thank you for your time.

After reading the regs myself, I figured I would get a fishing license to be on the safe side. A combo FW/SW fishing license is $26 ($25.50 + 50Ã"šÃ‚¢ vendor fee).
Here's the MyFlorida page with the types of licenses and prices (remember to add 50Ã"šÃ‚¢ for the vendors fee) :

If nothing else, at least part of the license fees go toward wildlife management, including protecting old reefs and building new ones.
I hope you get an answer soon Agu, if you get a positive answer, make sure we have a copy or two available in case we run into an over zealous DNR agent. While those of us with licenses would more than likely be covered, we don't need to put other members at risk. Man... the last thing I want to have to do, is explain to James parents that we had to bail their son out of jail for felony hermit snatching. :lmao: (Just kidding James

If we go at low tide water shouldn't be more than waist deep so we wouldn't need a boat.
BTW, if we used a boat a fishing license is required. If we're fishing from shore and a Fl resident a license isn't required. The confusion comes up as to what defines fishing from shore. If you're in waist deep water are you fishing from "shore" ?

"In general, you need a freshwater license to take freshwater fish and a saltwater license to take saltwater fish, unless one of the exemptions specified on this Web site applies to your situation."
So my guess would be we can go as long as the people WITHOUT the license do not take fish.

This is just my opinion, I would buy a license if you plan on attending. I been on the waters in Sarasota for all my life. The Florida Fish and Game Guys and Gals are great people and very knowledgeable, but they are also very strict. If you are breaking the law they will ticket you or worse. Yes maybe you will never see an officer but there is always a chance. It is the same out in the boat, If the are 4 people 3 of you fishing and one 4 fishing poles, you will most likely recieve a ticket if you do not have a license. Plus as mentioned it helpls protect our enviroment that sorrounds us. A License can be bought online and you can print the confirmation number. Your actual license will arrive in about 7 days. Again JMHO..

Since Scott is busy he authorized me to plan the outing.
How does Sunday the 21th around 3pm at the south Lido beach canoe/kayak launch sound ? It's at the southern end of Lido Key. Go until you get to Taft which you follow ENE until it dead ends at the launch.
