maze brain... help.... a little bit of skeleton is showing...

i have a green maze brain about the size of a maxijet 900 that has some skeleton showing.. they are very small spots.. one in the middle and a little on it's rim... im thinking it's placement that is causing this....

155 bf, 4 mj mod pumping 1400-1500 gph... ssb,300+ lbs of lr, under 6 54watt t5ho w/ slr on advance ballast, currently about 12'' under water surface ( my light are 4'' above water surface) 55 gal fuge/sump with dsb w/ octo rps-3000 moded...

where do you guys/gals place your mazes?? how far from light?? flow ?? ect...
again, i think it''s my placement that is doing this but i could be wrong..

any idea??

My brain is at the bottom of the tank under 216w of T5 with some shade from an overhang. Your placement seems fine, is it new, have you moved it? Normally some skeleton will show if you touch it or if it is getting too much direct flow. Perhaps move to lower flow and see if it puffs out a little bit more, this might take no time or up to a week to see if it likes it.

I have a Platygyra that has one dead corallite in the middle. I kept waiting for it to grow over, but then one night I saw a tiny crab living in the corallite. He's so small and light colored that you can't usually see him even thought it's a very small space that he lives in. He doesn't seem to cause any further harm to the coral so I just let him be.

As far as placement, mine sits on the sand about 28" below a 250w 10k bulb. I'd say it gets low-med flow. And I feed it frozen food about 3 times a week after lights out. I would definitely try to feed the coral to get those spots to regrow.

how the heck do you feed a maze brain?? i font see any mount ... just squiggly lines and a little puff of tissue... can i just drop a pellet or flake on it???

so my brain might be normal... kool thanks guys/gals... yeah i dont see it dieing to getting worst... it just stay the same.... hum.. now this bring up another q?... how do they grow?? i mean is there a sign that tell you it is growing?? kinda like sps with it's tips...

A healthy maze will extend its feeders. They should be able to catch most things, my platy came as a frag and I have had the hardest time trying to get it to grow tissue, so it seems pretty difficult I think.

Shine a flashlight on the coral after the lights have been off for an hour. You'll probably see tentacles extended. At that point you can feed it any kind of frozen food and probably dry foods as well. I use a mix of raw seafood that I make in a blender and then freeze. During the day I usually don't see tentacles extended, so you have to wait until dark.

As far as growing, they are massive corals so growth will be difficult to see unless you compare photos from several months apart. But if you feed them, you may see tissue regrow the dead skeleton. Mine always seems to be encroaching the one dead corallite, but I think the crab keeps it from completely covering it.
