Hi everyone,
Today I bought a 1" frag of a maze brain coral (platygyra). I will include a picture of him. Couple questions I have, with the main thing being the best placement. I know that they need moderate to low lighting and moderate flow. The main question I have is, through my research I have seen conflicting ideas on whether to place in the substrate or on the rocks. I rearranged a section of my live rock and put him on there. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where exactly I should place him? Leave him on the rocks or put in the substrate? Some people say the sand will irritate him and others say he will scratch against the rocks. Where he is located is off to the side of the lights (moderate to low) and just offset from a p.h. to where he gets a decent amount of flow, but not direct.
More info:
29g tall tank that has been running for about 4 months, running 1 AI prime mounted in the center. All params are 0 except nitrate is sitting about 10ppm. 60g hob protein skimmer and 2 koralea p.h. Getting a test for alk and phosphates this weekend so not sure of those numbers.
Also about 20 mins after putting him in the tank (dipped in revive for about 5 mins before putting him in after floating for about 20) there were long mucus strings coming off. They stopped after a few mins but were hanging on him for quite some time. Is this just a response to the new tank or is that bad news?
Thanks in advance for responses (newbie here and loving the forums)
