Maze Brain Reccesion-not sure what to do.

I got a maze brain about 4 weeks ago, and it has been doing great. Except today I went to look at it and there is a small circle of dead coral. My parameters are all fine, and I'm not sure if it's not getting enough light or if it's not getting enough flow. Let me know what things I should check and look at so I can find out how to save this gorgeous coral.

Check your magnesium levels. IME this is a huge reason for tissue recession in LPS corals

Can you take a picture of it? How big is the spot? Can you see anything in the dead skeleton?

I have a Platygyra with one dead polyp. I didn't think much of it, but one night I saw a tiny crab inside the polyp. I guess he lives there and prevents the polyp from growing over. One night he killed another polyp as a second home I guess, but it has since grown over. I just leave him be since he doesn't seem to do any significant damage. He is very tiny and almost impossible to see most of the time.

Your LFS should have them. MG. is too often overlooked in this hobby

My maze is really tempermental. There's been times when I knew all params were fine but it would still bleach in an area. Then it would come back and it would bleach in a different area. And then some areas always look lighter than others. And it took many months before I even saw the thing extend feeder tentacles in my tank.

All I know is they are typically found in the substrate on natural reefs so that would normally mean lower light. Some say you can't give them too much light but I think you can. I keep it on the bottom, somewhat shaded, out of heavy flow and it keeps good color. Very little if any noticeable growth after a year though. I believe they're very slow growers.
