Mazzi injector

Anyone ever try to use a mazzi injector in a diy skimmer before???

Wow- you happen to be in Rochester, NY.
Two members of the URS (Upstate Reef Society) that I know of have used mazzei injectors on DIY skimmers. I'm one of them.

I used to sell hot tubs and one of the buzz words was "Mazzi Injector" "Better than the standard Venturi" "Atomizes air for more surface contact" Ofcourse like most salesmen i was just pulluing that out of my rear, however it all makes sense now. lol

by the way do you have any recomendations on who to call locally to drill my tank? If i wasnt so afraid i would try it myself.

I have a CPR that I just moved the intake to the other side of the aquarium. didn't seem to be the most efficient to have intake next to discharge. Kind of like having the air intake next to the truck exhaust at a building! Leads to headaches. Anyway. I would like to have better "froth" in my water. I made a bio ball needle wheel and it didn't help. Drilled holes in the impellars and made it a little better. Does the depth of the intake make a difference? Mine is at about 13-15".

You lost me, Bob.
What do you have that was made by CPR?
The pressure applied to any venturi (including a Mazzei) effects it's performance. So does the head pressure the pump is working against....

Gary, I have a CPR Bak Pak skimmer. I didn't like the intake drawing right next to the discharge so I plumbed my Maxi-jet to the other side of the aquarium. It is on the left side about 4 inch from the bottom. Pumps down through 3/8" tubing to a 1/2" elbow. Tubing goes inside the elbow and I have 3/4" tubing attached at the exit of the elbow. It runs under the rock to the other side of the aquarium into a 90 degree barb. It than goes up to the skimmer. I am considering a 484 venturi near the maxi jet. My thought is to create a lot of small bubbles and let that travel all across the aquarium, up into the skimmer, down into the first chamber for the longest residence time with the protein. My tank is 18" tall, so the venturi would be about 15" below the surface. Would it work that deep? Maxi jet pumps about 195 gph (3.2 gpm). Would the 484 be the right Venturi? Interesting idea. I like MJ's, but they aren't pressure rated pumps. Mazzei injectors really need a pressure rated pump to perform their best.

having your micro bubbles traveling through such a small diameter tube will make them collide and combine making lagrer bubbles which as we all know aren't good. i think this is the only case where bigger isn't better

What would the best injector be for a diy skimmer?
