McCosker's wrasse

Hi guys,

I purchased a male and a female/juvi McCoskers wrasse from a reputable online dealer. They were not a pair, but were purchased at the same time and I hoped they would be ok in my 120. The smaller of the wrasses was much more brightly colored which was a concern. They were ok for a week or so then the larger of the wrasses started darting after the smaller and flashing. The smaller wrasse seems to be ok but is starting to become more and more timid.

Do I have 2 males? Is this typical behavior for male/female that I should wait out? Is there a visual difference between male and female wrasses other than bright coloration? Thanks in advance for the help!

I would say just wait it out. In a 120 they should be fine together. You could very well have 2 juvenile males, but with your tank it should be fine either way.

I agree. If the smaller of the two fish develops male coloring, you may choose to add some juveniles to remain female. Watch and wait for the time being would be my best advice.

Thank you for the replies, I will wait to see what happens. I don't see any major signs of distress from the smaller fish, but it is disheartening to see it bullied.
