Measuring Fish

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but when measuring fish does one measure the just the body? or does it include the tail?
I am used to reptiles which use SV(snout to vent) lengths. This obviously does not work for fish, as i just noticed my foxface's vent is located between its pelvic fins.

Measure the whole fish, snout to tail. Some species with extremely elongate fin streamers are another story but nearly all fish have an overall length measured in this way.

from the lower jaw to the fork in the tail is the official way. Look below my avitar I know from work.
