Measuring salt for your mixing

I have a conductivity probe in the mixing container and slowly add salt to the water until it reads 53mS. Let it keep mixing for a while and stop. Then before using, which could be up to a month, I check with a refractometer and add a bit more water if needed.

55 gal blue barrel. 5o gal bag of reef crystals, turn on ro. Have a float switch to shut off solenoid when it reaches proper level. Throw in mag 5 and heater.

How do you guys measure you salt, or rather know how much to add per gallon you are making up?

Ive been in this hobby for years, and still i guess everytime and get to around 1.015, then add a little more and wait. Then test again, add more salt or water depending on what the s.g reads, then wait again...rinse repeat.

I would really like to get to where i dont have to do that. If i could find a formula to get me closer to 1.026 everytime, then only have to adjust once that would be great.

Just use the same amount of water every time. The first time take a plastic container (s tupperware, measuring cup or whatever like that size wise) Measure how many of those containers of salt you need to reach the level of salinity you want using the method you describe above, then the next time use the same volume of water and the same count of containers and that's it!
In my case I use a round tupperware the size of about 1-1/2 to 2 cups. I use 7 and 1/2 containers of salt for every 55 gal of water I prepare. Most of the time I do not need to adjust at all.

reef crystals 44 gallon brute container filled to 6" below the very top ans 13 regular coffee cups gets me 1.024-1.027 ,99% of the time then i adjust as necessary . once the initial dose is done it takes me 5 minutes to dial it in at 1.026 or 35 ppt .

Salt never measures correctly everytime. I use reef crystals and I use 2 full cups of a measuring cup I snagged from my wife and it always reads a little high or a little low. I let it mix and aerate with a powerhead then let it settle, check with a refractometer and adjust accordingly.

like said above if you mix up the same amount each time it makes it a lot eaiser. i have a 55 gal drum. i fill it almost full about 50 gallons add a 50 gal bag of what ever salt im using & test. usually takes from a quater to half of another bag to get to 35ppt. 1 bag never gets it there.

3 cups of reef crystals to 5 gallons of water 1.026 just about every time..sometimes have to add a little RODI to tweek it...
