Meaning they're not under federal regulation as such, and don't have to.
Certain species of fish react badly to meds others tolerate well. This is why we have a disease forum, to try to collect this info and get you headed down the best path.
Things most fish tolerate (but corals and inverts don't) is hypo or TTM, for ich, but TTM won't get parasites that stay with the fish. Because ich drops off the fish during its cycle of reproduction, it works on that.
Contrary to info in one recent thread, raising the temperature does not kill ich, but may kill your fish, inverts, and corals, and mess up your tank.
Angels are sensitive to copper. Copper may also affect a fish's slime coat, which is its protection against ich. A clown treated with copper should not be put in a tank with its nem, because it may be stung to death. Its acclimation to that nem has been removed, but the clown doesn't know it.
PREVENTATIVE MEDICATING may harm certain species.
Carbon in your filtration will screw up the dosage; so will evaporation without an ATO. This also can harm the fish from overdose (evaporation) or let the problem get through to the fish (carbon.)
READ LABELS THOROUGHLY, CONSULT FISH DISEASE THREADS, AND ASK IN A MORE ADVANCED FORUM FOR MORE EXPERIENCED ADVICE. BUT STILL READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
