But Jamey and Laura from Marine Dreams is going to do a seminar on working with Lexan for us. Jamey has a shop in the back of the store in which he builds items from lexan. We have chosen a date of August 12th at 1:00 for the meeting. Hope you all can make it. I will be sending out emails on this in the near future.

Please note: meeting is now at 2:00...
Here is the info for the Acrylic Meeting at Marine Dreams. I have let Jamey work at what he wants to show / teach and here is what he came up with. Hope we can get a group to show up and participate...

"Scott,

Sorry for the delay. Here is the class outline for the 12th. I am almost thinking maybe a three part series of classes might be cool too. This first one can be "Assembly and Gluing Techniques" The next could be "Heat Forming Acrylic" and the last maybe "Finishing and Polishing Techniques" Let me know what you think?

"Assembly and Gluing Techniques" - Dual Power Head Hanger - Class Outline

Since I am a big believer in learning by experience, I have decided to have individual projects for the acrylic class on the 12th. Each student will receive all the materials to make a dual power head hanger. The idea here is that it will be simple and something everyone may be able to use. Because each student will have their own project, I will need to limit the class size to 12 students. (I can push enrollment to 15 if we need to) Of course all are welcome to attend and watch the fun. The cost per student will be $5.00 which is to cover materials. All materials will be precut and ready for assembly. We will meet at Marine Dreams at 2pm. Students do not need to bring anything for the class.

We will also run the same discount for club members as the last meeting (15% off everything in the store)

Looking forward to it,

Jamey"

Emails will go out this week...

Can you also go over what the best way to cut acrylic is? Best bits or blades, router or table saw, ect. I realize you would not want everyone cutting peices because of safety issues but a quick demo or discusion on this would also be helpful.

Seconded on discussing the best ways to work with acrylic. Looking forward to the meeting, been a while since I've been to one.

Emails for this meeting have been sent out, if you did not recieve and would like to let me know.
I am sure Jamey will be more then happy to answer any questions you have about acrylic work. Also no, we will not be cutting any pieces. He is making up pre-cut pieces for us to Glue and assemble.

Class sign up...

Class sign up...

For all those who are interested in the acrylic workshop we have a sign up sheet here at the store. I do not spend much time here, nor do I know everyones handles on RC, so if you want to save a space, please register via the sign up sheet. Space will be limited, so please do not delay.

I had a customer suggest making a photo box for coral photography, so please specify if you want to make a dual power head hanger, or photography box....

I also picked up a bunch of scrape pieces so students can take home material for future projects.

I can go ovcer cutting and tools as well, but I will not be doing an demostrations.

I vote for power head hanger, even though I have no power heads to hang...So gues it really still does not matter..Lot of help I am...

Not sure if my earlier post counted as sone, so here's a "will attend." I'll also stop by the store and sign up on the list if there are any spots left open.

Rigth now there is xtream, Brian, todd and cuncator. Everyone else is welcome but there will not be any kits available for assembly. Jamey made kits based on the above confirmed attendees. Remeber it is $5 per kit. But more are welcome to come and see his shop and ask questions. He is also in the middle of some nice tanks he is making. See you all there..

I hope that Lynn and I will be there. I do my own acrylic work, but could always learn a few tips. We dont need a kit, but we just want to watch and meet a few folks who we havent met yet. I say we might be there, because we found out the house has dry wood termites, and the company is coming Tues. to treat. They cant tent-because of the tanks and stuff, and it doesnt last anyway. I have to do some prep work on Sunday morning prior to them coming. So we do hope to be there. See Ya, Steve.

scott sorry for the last minute cancellation but i had a personal problem that came up. i sent you an email with an explanation. wish i could be there and good luck all.
