Melanarus Wrasse

It disappeared when placed in DT with a mystery wrasse. Haven't seen it since it dove in the sand after being chased by the mystery. Initially the mystery paid no attention to the Melanarus then it started chasing it. You think it's dead? It doesn't come out to eat. It ate well in QT.

When they just get into the tank they can hide in the sand for several days. Mine was in the sand for 8 days when I first put him in. Just be patient. I'm sure he's fine.

How long has it been AWOL? They do bury themselves when stressed. I would not give up yet. I have a mystery and melanarus in my 120 gal and they get along fine (also have a six line in with them, no problems).

Mine was in the sand for 5 days in my QT before coming out. I don't recall how long it was in the sand in the DT, but it couldn't have been longer than a day or two or I'd remember being nervous about it.

I had one for a couple years and every now and then would just randomly disappear sometimes for a day other times just a few hours, I worried about it at first but he was fine every time. He was the only wrasse in the tank with a bunch of gobies so it wasn't a hiding from other fish thing either. Once he got bigger he moved to my Dad's 240 did the same thing, and to my knowledge still does it I am sure it is fine.

It took 9 days before it showed it's face. I quickly fed it and it ate well but was only out for an hour when the lights came on. The Mystery wrasse didn't even chase it this time. It came out the day after too and ate but no show for the past 2 days.

The wrasse disappeared for a week again and came out for an hour on Saturday and ate. Will it ever just stay out and swim with the other fishies?

Yup eventually, assuming it isn't being bullied. Mine was actually a pretty active fish eventually, just had to put up it disappearing periodcially.

mystery wrasses can be horrid little fish to new comers. What else do you have in the tank? Assuming it's the 150 in your sig.

Yes it's in the 150 and it comes out twice a week for a few hours. I reward it with a meal whenever I see it out. There aree 2 fish that chase it, the blue hippo and the mystery.
