Melanurus and mystery wrasse compatible?

I'm thinking of adding a Melanurus wrasse to a 6ft tank with a small mystery wrasse. Will they likely get a long or am I asking for a war?
Also Divers Den rates them as difficult-is this true? I've always found Halichoeres
wrasses to be fairly easy.

Halichoeres r usually easy esp a Melanurus. As far as the two getting along, may or may not....depends on how the established mystery feels about the situation. IMO, your asking 4 war.

That one mixes fine, but it's not a Pseudocheilinus. A close cousin, yes; but still a different genus.

I think you might be ok, if the Melanurus is bigger, but on that note I have heard of Mystery wrasses becoming PITAs towards other wrasses as they mature.

My mystery wrasse was always very shy and timid. I've kept both these fish, but never together. I do have friends that have kept them both in large systems without issue - some occasional fighting when food was in the water, but nothing major.

If it was me, and I had a 6 foot tank, I'd probably give it a shot.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I'll need to pass on the Melanarus for now. For future reference is the Divers Den "difficult" rating accurate or are they hardy like most other wrasses in their genus?

As for the difficult rating on DD, I think it's a mistake. If you look up melanarus wrasses on just the regular LA website, they are listed as easy:

Whether LA or DD, it's the same fish. Easy.
