Melanurus wrasse attached by Coral Beauty in QT

I have a Coral Beauty and Hoeven's wrasse in a 10 gallon QT. They were to go in their third tank transfer in the morning. I arrive this afternoon to see the wrasse badly beaten. Left fun is torn badly and the dorsal is a little bloody. I immediately removed it to another QT with fresh water from the DT.

The second TT I treated with prazipro. Both fish were fine this morning.

I have an air stone and powerhead in the QT to provide surface agitation. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the coral beauty attacked the wrasse.

Thoughts or opinions?

If this in indeed the case, I don't think I risk dropping this beauty in my DT where my small clowns and Kole meet the same fate.

This female wrasse was very active and super fast I just don't see the beauty able to to this damage......

Both fish are around 2.5" long.

What a dang shame! I thought the CB was non aggressive, so my research said at the retailers. Really ****es me off. Me wrasse needs to be out of of her mysery, no way she survives this as it damn near ripped completely off. I have a good mind to send the beauty down the drain with the poor wrasse.

I hate this "hobby" sometimes.

Cb usually aren't so bad. A 10 gallon is awful small for qt more than one fish. It would bring out the aggression in any fish. I've kept dwarf Angels for years, coral beauty, potters and flame namely. They were all easy going. Even toward eachother in groups of 3 or more.

Perhaps the qt was too small. Both these fish are 2.5" long. Just laid the wrasse to rest. Couldn't stnsd watching her suffer any longer. Don't you think it would be foolish to put this CB in the DT with the tiny clowns and kole? My gut says NO but part of me feels you're absokutkey right 3ford. Perhaps the DT it would be fine. I just don't think I can chance it.

And no, I'm going to kill the CB because I'm mad and upset. Although eating it did cross my mind. Little bastaige.

How big is your DT? If there's enough room for each fish to stake out their own territory, you should be fine.

100 gallon with 3 current residents, two 1" clowns and 2" kole tang. Lots of room to roam and hiding places.

I am going to keep the CB. Named her Katniss. Such a beautiful fish. This is part of it I suppose. Will never QT more than 1 fish again! fosho!

Poor wrasse. I will NEVER forgive myself for this one.

RIP EVE

I had an Eibli's that once beat up a Maroon Clown :eek!:

While Coral Beauties are typically one of the easiest going Centropyge angels, sometimes you get an individual with severe attitude.
