Melanurus Wrasse Help

Hey guys, last night I brought in two new fish into my 90 gal. These are the first fish I am adding, tank is around 7 months old. A yellow tang and a Melanururs Wrasse. Both acclimated for an hour. When I put the fish in the tang was freaking out, but the wrasse was calm. He didnt go straight for the sand. Well i'm looking at the tank, and I do not see him, LFS told me they were really active fish... Is it possible hes still scared and is in the sand? Should I look for him, or just wait, the main lights came up 2 hours ago (9:35)

Thanks

Just leave him alone, he's prolly oversleeping from jet lag and stress. Besides sleeping in the sand they'll hide there if they get spooked, sometimes for a few days. Once he settles in he'll keep a regular schedule and be very active when he's awake

Your can keep an eye on your ammonia levels for piece of mind. If he's dead he'll start to rot pretty quickly.

alright thanks, I will wait until he pops up, I really hope he's fine, hes gonna have a blast in my tank, ive got so many worms and pods waiting for him :)

they're pretty beefy fish. Mine buried himself when I drained and moved my old tank. Sat in about 2" of water and he was fine.

If you go looking for him you'll just add more stress to the fish. It might take a few days for him to feel comfortable. Hopefully the yellow tang behaves himself. They can be buttheads when added as one of the first fish in the tank.

I love my Melanarus, very active. Once it gets comfortable it will be all over the tank picking away at rocks. Mine shoots into the sand sometime after 8 and before lights go out at 9.

I sometimes forget I have mine in my tank. He's always the first one to go to bed, and last one to come out to play. They will remain hidden for days, usually when first being introduced, or introducing new tank mates. Sometimes you can look underneath your tank with a flashlight and see where hes at if your sand bed is not that thick.
